DEFINITION:

Index Crimes – are crime which are serious in nature and which occur with sufficient frequency and
regularity such that they can serve index to the crime situation, the policy considers only the crimes of murder, homicide, physical injuries (including frustrated murder and homicide), carnapping, cattle rustling, robbery, theft and rape as index crimes
